分類彙整: about RHC

History

Rhino Hockey Club was founded in 1980, which was originated from the men’s team formed in the HK Polytechnic by Mr LEE Chun Kay in 1978.

Rhino gained promotion in the first season, same points but less in goal average with the then winners, becoming the only local Chinese team in D2 (Division 2), while HKU, HKUSU and SRBCE were all in D3.

Rhino owned 2 men and 1 women teams in the 2nd season. Although teething peoblems caused the quitting of some players, the number of men and women teams increased to 4 and 2 respectively in 1986-87 season.

86-87 was the season to commemorate, not just because of the number of teams, but the historic record of becoming the first local Chinese side gained promotion to Men’s D1.

In the same 86-87 season, Rhino C won men’s D5 championship while the Rhino girls won D3 championship and D2 1st runners-up respectively.

Rhino girls also wrote the record when they won the D2 championship in 1989, becoming the first sole Chinese team in D1 consecutively for 8 years, before the team decided to dismiss themselves in 1997.

(D1 was the top division before premier division was introduced in 2003 and 2009 respectively in the men’s and women’s leagues.)

Rhino had hard time when Mr LEE announced his withdrawal of all the posts in HKHA as well as Rhino HC in 1993.

Rhino girls changed their team name to Zenith in 1994, while the remaining men’s team gradually dropped to D4 and quitted the league in 2002.

Rhino rejoined the league in 2005, with a men’s team mainly composed of junior players, being trained up by the effort of Mr LEE Chun Kay, who started his own school programs in 2000.

The new looked team won the championships of D5 and D4, and 1st runners-up of D3 and D2 year by year, and thus gaining promotion to D1 without any delay in 4 years. It could be another record of HK hockey written by Rhino.

In the same season of rejoining the league, Rhino boys also claimed the winners of both HKHA U17 & U15 Tournament in addition to the D5 league title. They were also the 1st runners-up of the Junior League (U15) .

Rhino added a B team in D3 in 2010-11 season, which was also composed of juniors, as being the back-up source for the As. Unexpectedly, Mr Lee was injured in a traffic accident early in the season, that stopped him from playing together with the team anymore.

The Bs, unlike the As who had Mr Lee playing with them all the way through from D5 to D1 in order to get grown up , was relegated to D4 in the first year due to the lacking of experience.

However, Rhino A won the league title in 2013-14 season, becoming the first ever Chinese Men’s  D1 winners.

To be continued.

Objectives

  1. To promote hockey among the local community in Hong Kong.
  2. To enforce discipline by means of playing according to the Rules of the Game as well as Sportsmanship.
  3. To ensure everyone enjoy the game in all levels, i.e., we aim at both high level training as well as grass root level development.

Stand

We emphasize development among local Chinese simply because the majority of Hong Kong people doesn’t know hockey properly, while the game itself is in fact very suitable for the participation of the locals of asian origin.

It is totally not racial issues. Furthermore, we enjoy the same sport, we are the same race.

Vision

Our work done and achievements in the past 40 years have proven that people can easily be attracted to join the hockey family, provided that rudeness and rough play are strictly refused.

The results would be far more better if financial and ground problems could be solved.
